Summary

Full Description: A George Jones 15+1+18+1-Key "Piano-fingered" concertina. NB: The two "+1+" separate keys, though in the usual under-the-thumbs "Air-Valve" position, do in fact operate upon drone reeds. Serial No 26937, in very original condition. The wide radial rows of key mimic the arrangement of piano keys, with a lower row of "white notes" (the "C" note keys in red),and an upper staggered row of black accidental notes positioned above the white notes as on a piano keyboard. The system appears on the Lachenal concertinas made for the dealers J E Dallas & Son, when the instrument is named "The JEDcertina". See Item No C.301 for an example of a Lachenal "JEDcertina". No maker's end-label, but with a first appearance of the Jones hand-bar stamp "Screwed Notes, Defi-GJ-ance, London Make" in a fancy lozenge stamped on the face of one of the hand-bars. The instrument has wide mahogany ends, and retains its original dimpled red leather fret baffles; the case is original paper covered deal, with some lid-edgings missing. A rare and unusual form of the Jones two-row 15+1+18+1-Key "Piano-fingered" concertina, with the standard style of mahogany ends and fretwork that appears on the many basic 2- and 3-row "Anglo" concertinas produced by the George Jones workshops.Stained mahogany ends, frets and action boards, broad bone buttons, with fully-rectilinear reed-pans, and 6-fold green leather bellows.
